Jan grew up in Iowa and began writing novels in 2010. Her debut novel, Believe, was published in August 2013. A romantic time-travel fiction set in the Victorian era, Believe received critical praise from San Francisco Book Review, which noted:
“Several things stand out in Believe that make it different from other time-travel romance books. The element of a sociopathic stalker added a level of mystery and suspense, as well as providing a catalyst to advance the romance.”

Ghost and A Cop Series – The series focuses on Detective Brett O’Shea, who has psychic abilities but is unaware of it. Det. O’Shea and the ghost become partners, as their city is attacked by various supernatural killers. Throughout the series, Brett’s abilities are revealed.  The books in the series include: York Street, Red Sunset Drive, Tempest Court, and Hazzard Avenue.  Coming in 2026 is Ascension Road; the fifth book in the series.

In 2022, Jan expanded her creative work into screenwriting. The following year, she founded 1949 Productions, LLC, and now serves as executive producer and co-writer for three feature films. Released in 2025, Schism and Voodun are available on Amazon Prime, while Grimshaw is streaming on Tubi. The film Voodun is loosely based on her novel Hazzard Avenue. Jan is also preparing to release the film Lost Lake in 2026.
